Exotic Hardwood Dice (Sets of 6)
Strain some necks at your next game with these handmade exotic six sided dice. All wood species come in sets of six dice.
All of our Math Rocks are crafted from solid hardwood, with hand applied pips, and hand sanded finish with rounded edges. Sets include 6 six sided dice or 6d6 (say that 3 times fast) in your choice of exotic wood species. High quality materials ensure a lifetime of use.
DIMENSIONS. Dice are 0.75" x 0.75" x 0.75" (19mm x 19mm x 19mm). Overall dimensions may be up to -1/32" (-0.8mm) smaller due to the nature of hand sanding each face individually. This minor variation is not noticeable and does not impact rolling or balance in any substantial way.
PIPS. Pips are crafted in Maple and are hand applied to each face via a very cute tiny hammer. Pips begin their life raised above the die surface and are carefully sanded down ensuring a perfectly smooth face. The finishing process causes the pips to slightly expand laterally ensuring a rock solid fit.
WOOD SPECIES. Dice come in sets of six in your choice of wood species. Select your set from: Bolivian Rosewood, Pau Rosa, Wenge, Bocote, Chechen, Canarywood, Black Walnut, or Padauk.
CUSTOM COMBOS AVAILABLE. Want a variety of wood species in different quantities? Reach out for a custom combination - we're happy to help!
HAND FINISHED. Dice are initially belt sanded to flatten pips, then sanded by hand for a soft surface with slightly rounded edges with 220 grit sandpaper. The final product is finished with a matte aerosol based polyurethane to emphasize the natural beauty of the wood.
--- WOOD DESCRIPTIONS AND INFORMATION ---
BLACK WALNUT ($30). Hailing from North America, Black Walnut is a favored classic wood species prevalent throughout the eastern and central United States. It has a dark chocolate brown coloring that can vary to charcoal grey and dark purple. Woodworkers favor Black Walnut for it's strength, beauty, and robustness. This species may provoke treehouse related memories of broken limbs and hospital trips.
PADAUK ($35). This eye-catching species originates in Central and West Africa and features vibrant reddish orange coloring that will darken over time with exposure to direct sunlight (made from vampires?!). Padauk has a faint vanilla aroma - avoid if you are particularly sensitive to smell. Get two sets if you really like vanilla and enjoy pulling dice out of your pocket in public to grab a quick sniff. Has excellent decay resistance and is very durable.
CANARYWOOD ($40). Boasting a straight grained appearance on a light yellow color with delicate light red and grey striping, this species originates throughout South America. Dice tend to be visually consistent, uniform throughout surfaces, and boasts a good natural luster. Reminiscent of a wheat fields on a summer day. Contains up to 10% Canary meat.
CHECHEN ($45). Originating from the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Belize, Cuba, Jamaica, and southeastern Mexico; Chechen has been out 'discovering itself' while taking a year off before college. Color is highly varied with red, orange, and brown contrasted with darker stripes of blackish brown. Grain is usually straight but can be wild or interlocked with a uniform medium to fine texture and good natural luster.
BOCOTE ($50). This dramatic wood species originates in Mexico and Central / South America and is known for dramatic dark brown and black striping over a caramel yellow body. Grain patterning is quite striking with figuring and wavy patterns throughout. This mixture is beautiful and unpredictable (like my ex-wife), but not ideal for high contrast needs. This species tends to be naturally waxy and feels great in hand.
BOLIVIAN ROSEWOOD ($55). Commonly known as Pau ferro, Bolivian Rosewood originates from tropical South America - primarily Bolivia (duh) and some parts of Brazil. Coloring is highly varied ranging from dark violet brown with streaks of reddish orange and dark chocolate brown. Rich and variable is an excellent description of this beautiful wood species - these dice could easily be on one of those 'is it cake?' shows - they look delicious. For external use only.
WENGE ($60). This striking wood species originates in Central Africa and features a uniform dark black color that contrasts highly with Maple dice pips. Wood grain is primarily straight and can contain very dark brown coloring on edge sawn surfaces. With an interesting history of use in ritualistic scarification Wenge is an excellent choice for high visibility needs (old people), low light environments (vampires), or projection of years of internalized darkness and evil (all of the above).
PAU ROSA ($65). Originating in African Rainforests, this species showcases a highly variable red coloring that ranges from deep blood red to orange / pink highlights combined with darker brown markings. Grain is typically wavy and interlocked producing impressive contrasts in coloring. Dice are known for warm coloring with interesting color contrast. Can be easily mistaken for the blood of your enemies or a handful of squished fairies.
